Rule-Based Mixed-Initiative Scaffolding

چکیده
The mechanism of Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) is a complex interactive process involving cognitive selfregulation. Self-regulation is enacted by learners when they form specific learning strategies that they actively or subconsciously adopt in order to enhance their learning experience. Our research concerns the development of a framework that allows for Mixed Initiative Interactions (MII) to help the learners optimize their learning strategies and help them self regulate better. We represent the underlying SRL tactics and strategies in an ontology. We utilize production rules to translate and disseminate SRL tactics and strategies represented in the ontology. This paper focuses on the design and development of the production rules. We describe how the production rules are employed in the context of a mixed-initiative system named MIEDNA.

Collaborative knowledge discovery with Pasteur and Filter: a case of mixed-initiative intelligence
This paper is based on the design of a system for collaborative knowledge discovery, in a situation where both some data and a domain expert are available. This system is composed of two elements: a data-mining algorithm (Pasteur) producing association rules organized in graphs, and a module (Filter) for collection, refinement and use of expert’s comments on the algorithm’s output. The two put ...
متن کاملA Mixed-Initiative Approach to Rule Refinement for Knowledge-Based Agents
This paper presents a mixed-initiative approach to rule refinement in which a subject matter expert collaborates with a learning agent to refine the agent’s knowledge base. This approach is implemented in the Disciple learning agent shell and has been evaluated in several agent training experiments performed by subject matter experts at the US Army War College.
متن کاملMixed - initiative Control for Teaching and Learning in Disciple
Disciple is an approach to agent development by subject matter experts where an expert teaches a Disciple agent his or her problem solving expertise in a way that resembles how a person teaches another person. This paper presents an overview of the teaching and learning process during which the expert helps Disciple to learn and Disciple helps the expert to teach it, emphasizing the mixed-initi...
متن کاملGamification for Low-Literates: Findings on Motivation, User Experience, and Study Design
This study investigated the effects of the gamification elements of scaffolding, score and hints on the user enjoyment and motivation of people of low literacy. In a four-condition within-subjects experiment, participants performed mental spatial ability tests with the aforementioned elements. Quantitative results were inconclusive, but post-test interviews provided insights on the limited effe...
متن کاملVolunteering Information -- Enhancing the Communication Capabilities of Knowledge-Based Systems
Cooperative problem solving systems support the solution of tasks which cannot be solved by the human or the computer alone. These systems need to be knowledge-based and require flexible communication paradigms allowing natural communication with both experts and novice users of the system. Natural communication (quite dtfferent from natural language) has to support mixed-initiative dialogues w...
